About the Fram

Built in 1892, Fram was a Norwegian exploration vessel engineered to withstand the enormous pressure of polar ice. Its unusually strong hull made it an important part of several landmark expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic.

Fridtjof Nansen used Fram during his attempt to reach the North Pole by drifting with the Arctic ice. The vessel was later used by Otto Sverdrup during exploration of the Canadian Arctic and by Roald Amundsen's expedition to Antarctica. Amundsen and his team became the first expedition to reach the South Pole in 1911.

The original Fram is preserved today at the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway.

A Detailed Project for Wooden Ship Modelers

The OcCre Fram combines wooden model ship construction with the distinctive hull and rigging of one of history's best-known exploration vessels. Its 1:85 scale provides enough size for substantial detail while producing a finished model suitable for display.

For builders interested in historic ships, polar exploration, Norwegian maritime history, or wooden ship modeling, the Fram offers a distinctive alternative to traditional sailing warships and merchant vessels.
