Designed and developed by the legendary Jim Hall, the 1965 Chaparral 2 was a groundbreaking race car that reshaped motorsport engineering:
- First pure racing car to feature a fiberglass composite monocoque chassis
- One of the first race cars equipped with a semi-automatic transmission
- Used a secret GM-developed 3-stage torque converter instead of a traditional clutch
- Introduced modular cross-spoke wheels, widely imitated in later years
The Chaparral 2 dominated the 1965 USRRC season, winning eight out of nine races, cementing its place in racing history. Car #66 remains one of the most recognized and admired versions, with its distinctive white-and-black bodywork and aerodynamic profile.
