About the Amerigo Vespucci

The Amerigo Vespucci is a historic sailing ship of the Italian Navy and one of the most recognizable naval training vessels in the world. Named after Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci, the ship was built at the Royal Naval Shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia near Naples and launched in 1931.

Designed as a training ship for naval cadets, the Amerigo Vespucci was inspired by the appearance and traditions of large sailing warships from the age of sail. Her distinctive profile features three masts, extensive square rigging, a black-and-white hull, and elaborate traditional detailing.

Rather than becoming merely a preserved museum ship, the Amerigo Vespucci has remained an active training vessel. Generations of Italian naval cadets have trained aboard the ship, learning traditional seamanship, navigation, sailing, and life at sea.

Over decades of service, the vessel has participated in training cruises and international voyages around the world, becoming an internationally recognized symbol of the Italian Navy and Italy's maritime heritage. Her combination of an operational naval role and the appearance of a traditional tall ship makes the Amerigo Vespucci an especially distinctive subject for ship modelers.

A Detailed 1:100 Scale Modeling Project

OcCre's Amerigo Vespucci 1:100 scale model kit provides the materials and components needed to reproduce the characteristic appearance of the original vessel. The model emphasizes the ship's elaborate rigging, three-masted configuration, hull details, deck structures, fittings, and sails.

At approximately 38.6 inches long when completed, this is a substantial display model intended for builders looking for a detailed wooden ship modeling project and for enthusiasts of naval history, historic sailing ships, tall ships, and maritime craftsmanship.
