About the Adler Railway
The Adler locomotive was manufactured by Robert Stephenson & Co. in Newcastle, England. It was shipped in parts to Rotterdam, transported along the Rhine to Cologne, and then moved overland to Nuremberg, where it was reassembled at the workshops of Johann Wilhelm Spaeth.
The passenger coaches used with the Adler were built of wood by local workshops. On December 7, 1835, the Adler made its inaugural journey between Nuremberg and Fürth on a railway approximately 6.04 km (3.75 miles) long.
